In this degree program, engineers are trained for many different tasks related to construction and a sustainable development of society's built environment.
The engineering profession is technically focused, but also human-minded. This is because the work is always carried out in collaboration with many other professional groups involved in joint projects. The goal of construction and renovation and care of buildings is to create conditions for a good living environment and promote ecologically, economically, socially and culturally sustainable development.
In addition to building technology and materials and HVAC and house technology for healthy houses, the studies include: economics, environmental aspects, leadership, project work and individual work as well as sustainability in construction and social development.
In this engineering program, students specialize in the STRUCTURAL DESIGN of buildings,or in HVAC DESIGN.
Structural design and planning is the question of designing, ie creating and dimensioning the structural solutions that enable both ordinary smaller and large stately buildings in both concrete steel and wood.
HVAC design and planning is the issue of designing HVAC and house technology and automation in the buildings to ensure that there will be healthy houses with a good indoor climate and technically correct and ecologically sustainable managed water and drainage.
The studies in the program are realized through lectures and exercises, both in groups and independently. It also includes excursions and compulsory internships and corporate studies for all engineering students in leading consulting companies in the industry. Partly included are virtual studies. The corporate studies are usually located in the metropolitan area or other major cities.
The central part of the studies is that they prepare you to have a central role in the construction industry in creating a sustainable and climate-smart society. Issues related to sustainability and a climate-smarter society are included in many of our courses, sometimes as central content, sometimes as a framework. Of the UN's 17 goals for sustainable development according to AGENDA 2030, numbers 3 (Good health and well-being), 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), 12 (Responsible consumption and production) and 13 (Climate action) are most central in our education. Objectives 6 (Clean water and sanitation), 7 (Affordable and clean energy), 8 (Decent work and economic growth) and 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure) are also treated in particular in our courses.
The characteristic of the engineering profession is that you have to work long-term with issues of crucial importance for sustainable development. The result of the work is lasting for many decades.
The student learns sufficient knowledge in building and civil engineering to understand and master engineering tasks in building planning and production, development of construction, structural engineering, management of construction projects and economic thinking. The student understands his central role as an engineer in the construction industry to create a sustainable and climate-smarter society.
The student understands and masters engineering tasks both for new construction and how to improve energy efficiency and, based on circular economy, sustainably develop the already built environment throughout its life cycle using, among other things, building information models.
The student can choose either STRUCTURAL DESIGN or HVAC DESIGN as his specialization.
Within the field of STRUCTURAL DESIGN, the student learns to understand and master the demanding structural engineering of concrete, wood and steel structures in order to create and dimension the construction engineering solutions that enable stable, safe, healthy and ecologically sustainable buildings.
Within the specialization HVAC planning, the student learns to understand and master the demanding planning of HVAC and building technology as well as automation in the buildings to ensure that there will be healthy houses with a good indoor climate and technically correct and ecologically sustainable heating, cooling, water supply, and ventilation system.
The specialization HVAC Design contains the courses that, in combination with a bachelor of engineering degree in construction engineering, provide the competence required for eligibility for demanding design tasks in HVAC (ventilation and water and drainage systems of properties)
