Description

This study programme presupposes that the student has previous studies in visual art, as well as professional experience. The student’s previous courses and their professional experience can be validated by this study programme, which lets the student focus on the courses that are required for a BA degree. The projected duration of the studies is approximately 2–3 years.
The focus of this programme is on the student’s own artistic work, in relation to the necessary art theoretical framework.

The student’s artistic process is continually reflected in the form of conversations with a personal supervisor, as well as group discussions. The study programme consists of:
Studies on location in the form of workshops, online courses and digital meeting spaces, where the supervision takes the form of group discussions and presentations, peer reviews, and constructive group critiques.

Description
This full-time study programme presupposes that the student has previous studies in visual art, as well as professional experience. Other studies in adjacent fields may also qualify. In that case, the applicant needs to specify how the acquired knowledge feeds into their art practice. The student’s previous courses and their professional experience can be validated by this study programme, which lets the student focus on the courses that are required for a BA degree. The focus of this programme is on the student’s own artistic work, in relation to the essential art theoretical framework. The student’s artistic process is supported by coaching by a personal supervisor, as well as in group discussions.
The duration of the programme is 2 years and comprises 240 ECTS (of which 120 ECTS are from previous university level studies in a related field).

The study programme mainly consists of online courses and digital meetings, where the supervision takes the form of group discussions and presentations, studio visits, peer reviews, and constructive group critiques. Guest teachers are invited to hold lectures and conduct studio visits. At least one week of contact studies will be held on location, at Campus Allegro in Jakobstad/Pietarsaari, Finland (or other location) every year.
The studies consist of:
• Core Studies, 120 ECTS (2 years of previous higher education studies will be accredited)
• Professional Studies, 90 ECTS
• Internship, 9 ECTS
• Elective Studies, 6 ECTS
• Thesis, 15 ECTS


Structure

CORE STUDIES
Core Studies 120 credits
A minimum of 120 Higher Education credits are required for admission to the Fine Arts Programme.
The student:
- has ability to retrieve and critically exam information
- has ability to author and communicate topics in a coherent way
- can solve problems
- has social competences and communication skills
Additionally the student should prove their interest/understanding in/of issues related to Fine arts.

PROFESSIONAL STUDIES
Theory

After completing this course, the student is expected to:
• have a solid insight into professional life as an artist
• have a broad understanding of the artistic field, in preparation for starting the work on their own thesis projects
• understand the importance of writing a report about their experiences
• see a clear connection between the study programme, their own artistic expression, and practical real life work in the field


ELECTIVE STUDIES (year of study: 4)
Elective studies, 6 credits
Electives are courses the students can choose, allowing them to study topics of interest and in line with the general aim of the studies. Electives, when added to the core courses, make up the total number of credit points needed to complete the studies.

Depending on your previous educational background, different language requirements apply. The language requirements are derived from your previous educational background. Students who have received their general education in Finland (grundskola/peruskoulu and/or gymnasium/lukio) are required to demonstrate sufficient language skills in Swedish and Finnish as a part of their bachelor’s degree. These students use the elective 6 ETCS for language courses.
