This course provides insights into the fundamentals of scientific writing, outreach and communication, science-policy interface, social impacts of science and career portfolio. At the end of this course, the students should be able to gather information and data and reflect on its reliability and relevance and present their knowledge orally and in writing while using the basic skills of scientific writing in English. Moreover, students expect to learn the importance of communication with society and how to write popular articles and policy briefs. In addition, the applicability of social media for communication and outreach will be discussed.
Students will also develop a career portfolio during the course to learn about their own potentials and make impressive job applications for their future career. Students will also practice working in interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary projects and environments.

• Searching scientific and other materials and data
• Structure of scientific text
• Essentials of scientific writing in English
• Communicating with society and the public: popular articles, policy briefs and social media
• Identifying relevant stakeholders and actors
• Ethics in science
• Working in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary projects and teams
• Career planning
