The course is an online course. On the Moodle platform "UOSÅ15SO Socialt arbete II e-socionom" you will find more information about the course (course key will be given by responsible lecturer).
Assignment, 3 ects

The assignment includes three different parts; part one (1) focuses on what's going on in society today regarding immigration and multicultural social work. Part two (2) focuses on legislation and the legal process of integration. Part three (3) focuses on the experience of being an immigrant or a professional working with immigrants.

Part 1 (1 ects): The student reads a minimum of 4 newspaper articles (can also be online articles) and watches/listens to at least one debate or discussion on TV/radio about immigration or multicultural social work in Finland (or in Europe for exchange students). Afterwards the student writes down his/her conclusions on what has been said or discussed on approx. 4 pages (all sources must also be mentioned in the assignment).

Part 2 (1 ects): The student reads about legal rights and services for immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers in Finland and develops his/her knowledge by working with a given ppt-file (for more information, see Moodle).

Part 3 (1 ects): The student interviews a person who has an immigrant background or a social work professional working in an multicultural environment or work place. The student plans the interview questions from the conclusions drawn in part 1 and 2 and from learning about the following: Cultural sensitive social work, professional guidance and treatment in multicultural social work. Use a minimum of 3 sources (from the given literature or similar literature found by the student herself). After the interview the student draws a comparison between what has been said in the interview and what has been found in the research, facts and theories of the chosen literature. At the end of the assignment - the student presents and explains the five most important things he/she has learned about multicultural social work. Length: approx. 4 pages.

Criteria for Assessment:
- Part 1: Choice of relevant and reliable articles, ability to summarize and reflect on the content of the articles and TV/radio program. Good ethical and professional approach and attitude.
- Part 2: Knowledge of social services, legal rights and obligations during the integration process.
- Part 3: Ability to combine and discuss relevant sources and facts with the results of the interview. Good ethical and professional approach and attitude.

Short individual feedback will be given in Moodle within 3 weeks after the student has handed in all three assignments.
