Objective

Students:
Basic skills in the function and structure of diesel engines. Ability to take responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the ship’s auxiliary and main machinery.

• Circuit processes and efficiency of diesel engines
• Combustion sequence/processes and fuel
• Gas (ex)change and air charge
• Crankmovement, its force and elements
• Mass force and balancing
• Flywheel and torsionals/torsion turns
• Critical speed and oscilation damping
• Energy recovery in diesel engine applications
• Environmental impact and exhaust emission control
• Control systems and monitoring
• Rules of the flag States and classification society
