The student
- knows the water cycle and its importance for plant cultivation
- can plan drainage and knows digital tools for this
- knows methods for minimizing the load of the runoff on the watercourses
- knows the water needs of different crops and can optimize irrigation technology
- knows laws and regulations regarding ditching and irrigation

Content

Ground water
Drainage: development and basic concepts
Placement and sizing of open ditches and covered ditches
Maintenance, problems and troubleshooting
Materials and machines for cover ditches
Adjustable drainage, lime filter ditch and traps for phosphorus
Irrigation: soils and crops
Calculation of irrigation requirements
irrigation Technology
Laws and regulations regarding ditching and irrigation
The course is based on several of the global sustainability goals, mainly the goals of Responsible consumption and production, Life on land and Climate action.
