Descriptions

This study programme in Industrial Timber Construction Design and Structural Engineering is based on requirements for the scope of studies in building technology and design of exceptionally demanding mainly wooden structures and buildings according to the new Building Act in Finland 2025 (2023/751) and Eurocode 5 Design of timber structures.

This study programme deals with building information modelling for industrial timber construction and fire dimensioning, stiffening and sound technology in wooden structures as well as the climate footprint and life cycle calculations of wooden buildings. The study programme also covers the special features of construction and design guidance in industrial wood construction.

The total length of the studies in this program is 25 credits in one year. Students can complete the entire program (25 credits) or only individual courses.

Objective

The student
- is able to participate effectively as a building and structural designer or developer in a project group for the design of industrial wood construction for demanding buildings.
- is able to take a central role in creating sustainable and climate-smart buildings.
This further education is based on the requirements for the design competence of demanding and exceptionally demanding structures.

An important goal in this study programme is that it prepares you to take a central role in creating sustainable and climate-smart buildings in a cost efficient way. Issues related to sustainability and a more climate-smart society are included in the courses. Of the UN's 17 goals for sustainable development according to AGENDA 2030 objectives 3 (Good health and well-being), 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), 12 (Responsible consumption and production) and 13 (Climate action) are most central in this further education.
