Descriptions

The main goal of the education for Bachelor of Natural Resources is to train skilled resource persons for the management and versatile use of forests. Ecology, economics, sustainability principles and UN's global goals according to Agenda 2030 form an important basis for the curriculum.

The education provides knowledge and skills for sustainable forest management, considering the versatile use of our most important natural resource. Forest mensuration, forest management, wood procurement, wood processing, forest planning and GIS are included in the training. Theory classes are interspersed with projects and planning work in the field. Large forest areas are utilized for field studies during the studies.

Development

The curriculum is updated regularly to respond to the needs of the business community and the society. The Forestry Engineer's core competencies are identified in a broad network of collaborations between the business community and the universities of applied sciences that educate forestry engineers.

Parts of the studies are carried out in project form or in other direct interaction with the business community, for example through collaboration with various industry companies and industry organizations, study visits and expert lectures, which promotes versatile career- and alumni contacts for forestry students.

Joint courses in the field of bioeconomics together with agrology students and international students strengthen the forestry students' broad base and network in the nature management sector.
