Studieperiodens (kursens) innehåll

This course covers the basics in coastal ecology utilizing the Baltic Sea as a case study. The physical, chemical and biological features of this sea will be discussed. Different species, habitats and ecological functions are discussed and studied.

Undervisningsmetoder

A combination of theory and practice, with one week's field work at Tvärminne Zoological Station. Lectures, exercises in class and literature studies.

Assignments, performance during field week, active participation in lectures and a written examination

The student is assessed on the basis of performance in field work (20%), assignments (60%) and exam (20%).
In addition, their participation in class and activities is also part of the evaluation. So, participation and attendance to all classes (lectures) and field trips are mandatory.
