Objective

Students:

- Know pecific periods, movements and theatre practices that have influenced the art of acting. Analyse their relevance to contemporary performing arts
- Can identify the difference between psychological and non-psychological approach to role/situation/scene.
- Can relate their own stage presence to principles of voice and body movement in relation to time and space and to the ensemble as a whole.
- Is familiar with the concepts of situation/direction/ turnpoint and verfremdung/ gesture and can utilise them in his/her stage performance.
- Can explore advanced improvisation exercises and how they can be used to develop the actors' creativity and spontaneity.
- Is able to provide guidance on characterisation, vocal technique and stage presence.
- Can develop and implement lessons on acting. Use different didactic principles to engage students.
- Can apply their knowledge of acting in relation to audiovisual media, such as film and radio. The student has developed competence in microphone and camera technology and understands the possibilities they offer for acting.
- Is able to discuss ethical issues that may arise in acting.

Content

The difference between psychological and non-psychological approach to roles and situations
The concepts of situation, direction and turning point
The concept of verfremdung and gesture
Knowledge of the art of acting in relation to audiovisual media and research into a variety of improvisation methods
Knowledge of how to give guidance on characterisation, voice technique and stage presence

Qualifications

Course: Basic course in acting 1, part 1 and 2

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Approved requieres minimum grad 3
