Objective

After completing the course, the student should:
- Be able to reflect on pedagogy as a social science.
- Be able to fundamentally analyse the connections between social development, education and learning and the impact of digital
development on these.
- Be able to critically analyse the role of school and education in counteracting the reproduction of inequality and exclusion.
- Be able to explain what equality-promoting and sustainable pedagogy means in today's diverse society.
- Be able to explain the role of schools and education in the transition to an ecologically sustainable society.

Content

The course deals with sociological theories from an educational perspective with a special focus on pedagogy as a social science. The course provides a basis for sociologically and pedagogically oriented social criticism and social analysis with a focus on theories of sustainability and norm-critical perspectives. The focus is on the place and development of education in the socially and technologically changing and diverse society from an equality and gender equality perspective.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

A grade of 1 means that the student has superficially understood the course content and to some extent achieved the learning outcomes and general skills. Major shortcomings such as weak content-related (e.g. incorrect facts) reasoning are found in the examination papers.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

A grade of 3 means that the student has a good understanding of the course content and has applied it (e.g. key concepts, theories, models) independently. The examination papers are of a good level in terms of content.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

A grade of 5 means that the student has understood the course content very well and can relate to complex phenomena, theories, concepts and models. Students are able to engage in nuanced reasoning (e.g. critical/analytical/reflective) that demonstrates a deep understanding of the content. The examination tasks are of a high level in terms of content.
