Objective

After completing the course, the student should have hands-on experience of operating a steam boiler and steam turbine. The student should be able to identify important components and meters in a physical boiler system and in a power plant simulator. The student should be able to investigate how central operating parameters in a power plant affect performance.

Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Participates in the various activities included in the course.
Can identify relevant components and meters in a physical steam boiler system as well as make correct readings and present measurement results in a systematic form.
Can follow instructions for operating a power plant in a simulator.
Can identify relevant components and meters in the simulator and make systematic notes on operation with variation of parameters.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Sticks to schedules and completes results on time.
Performs tasks efficiently and safely.
Can, based on measured data ​​and simulation results, analyze a power plant by calculating various powers and efficiencies.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Actively seeks acknowledge and takes measures to make the most of the activities included in the course.
Can draw conclusions on how different operating parameters affect various powers and efficiencies and compare with theoretically expected outcomes.
