Objective

After passing the course the student is expected to:
• Be able to define and describe basic concepts in hydraulics and pneumatics
• Be able to understand the basic relationship between pressure, flow and work done
• Be able to perform component sizing and link components to functioning hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams
• Be able to analyze different circuits function and draw conclusions about performance

Content

The course content is as follows:
• Terms and concepts
• Components, their function and applications
• Component dimensioning and energy consumption calculations
• Different types of valve controls as well as existing valves and sensors
• Electrical control
• Installation and maintenance technical things
• Sequence control and logic circuits
• Reading and developing circuit diagrams
• Analysis of circuits and their function

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

• Know the most common terms and different phenomena
• Know the most common components, their symbols and their uses
• Can perform simple calculations and simple dimensioning of components
• Can read and create simple circuit diagrams and analyze the function of simple existing systems
• Knows different control methods and can create simple circuits with sequence controls

Assessment criteria, good (3)

• Knows different advanced terms
• Know different phenomena and understand what they mean
• Can perform calculations and dimensions
• Can read and create circuit diagrams and analyze the function of existing systems
• Can create circuits with sequence controls

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

• Know about various advanced phenomena and what they mean and how they can be applied / counteracted
• Can perform advanced calculations and dimensions
• Can read and create advanced circuit diagrams and analyze the function of advanced existing systems
• Knows different advanced control methods and can create advanced circuits with sequence controls

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Passed sub-exams / exam, approved exercises and approved assignments.
