Objective

The students
- have skills in communication on basic level in Swedish or/and Finnish with patients
- have skills in the phases of the laboratory examination process from the preanalytical to the postanalytical, when carrying out laboratory examinations, both in specimen collection and near patient examination.
- are able to meet the need of the patient in the specimen collection process
- are able to establish co-operative and harmonious working relationships with other health professionals
- have the ability to independently evaluate and manage new situations that belong to the area.
- have insights into quality assurance and improvement.
- consider security and occupational safety as well as sustainable development in the laboratory.
- have insights into ethical issues and base their work on work ethical values.

Clinical work practice in specimen collection, clinical biochemistry, clinical hematology, clinical microbiology, clinical physiology and neurophysiology, nuclear medicine, histopathology and cytology, transfusion medicine

Mandatory participation in practice seminar at the end of practice.

Content scheduling

8 week of clinical practice (37,5 h / week work at the practice organisation + 2,5 h / week selfstudies).
The practice is carried out during weeks 14-22 spring 2025.

Add up 8 weeks from the following:
3 weeks hematology (1 week coagulation, 1 week blood count analyser, 1 week microscopy)
1 week blood bank
5 weeks chemistry
3 weeks microbiology
2 weeks pathology/histology
2 weeks physiology
2 weeks sample collection (i.e. at a health care center)
1 week EKG
