Objective

The student will be able to:
- describe the material properties, possibilities and limitations of different building materials and identify the most common building materials and structural solutions (concrete, wood, steel, brick) in Finland
- identify the environmental impact of different building materials
- read and interpret material and drawing symbols in building and construction drawings
- make simple building drawings by hand
- present industry-specific information in writing, orally and visually

Content

- the most common structural materials (concrete, wood, steel, brick) used in Finnish houses and their properties
- both historical and modern house-building techniques
- the basics of drawing techniques
- material studies in complementary building components and surface materials
