Objective

The student will be able to:
- describe the health risks associated with asbestos and mould
- search for information and use it
- specify which surveys should be carried out before the actual work begins
- identify harmful substances and chemicals in construction
- describe which harmful ‘dust particles’ are present in the air in connection with a construction project
- quickly survey the presence of asbestos and mould in a renovation project and take immediate measures to protect themselves and their employees.

Content

The following areas are included:
- Regulations, legislation, housing health
- Fundamentals of chemistry, periodic table
- Harmful substances: mercury, coal tar, PCB and lead compounds, chemicals
- Asbestos
- Radon
- Mould
- Building materials from a health perspective during the construction process
- Dust control
- Chemistry in society

Qualifications

The educational modules Introduction to Building Techniques and the math course Functions and Equations 1, or similar knowledge

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The course is graded on a pass/fail basis.
The course requires active attendance and participation in lectures and compulsory exercises.
To pass the course, the student must receive a passing grade on all assignments and presentations.
