Objective

The student will be able to:
- perform standard structural engineering and physical investigations and measurements to assess the structural condition of buildings
- compile written reports from investigations and measurements and can extract relevant comparative values from the literature to relate to
- draw conclusions based on investigations, measurement results and comparative values, and are aware of how accuracy in execution affects the reliability of measurement results
- identify commonly used main building materials and construction solutions for different time periods
- meet with the customer and present their work orally and in writing
- work systematically and with professional documentation

Content

The course focuses on the systematic approach to conducting a structural survey and presenting the results, both in writing and orally. The course involves conducting a survey and condition assessment of an existing building.

Students work and report in groups. The course therefore also focuses on working in projects, taking responsibility for one's share of the whole, keeping to schedules, communicating and working towards a common goal.

The course includes:
- finding and using relevant documentation, literature and regulations on the subject
- observing, investigating and documenting
- using, reporting and interpreting the results of moisture measurement equipment, sampling and thermal imaging photography

Qualifications

The educational modules Introduction to Building Techniques and Residential and Public Buildings, or similar knowledge
