Objective
The student will be able to:
- describe the importance of geotechnics in construction
- explain how the subsoil is structured and, in broad terms, how it behaves during foundation work
- communicate the importance of conducting geotechnical investigations in order to choose a sustainable, environmentally sound and economical foundation method
- document and report examinations/lab tests in a professional manner
- summarise information and present it clearly in writing and orally

- Construction geology, soil and bedrock, soil types, material structure, shear strength
- Foundation investigation methods
- Water in the ground and frost
- Foundation methods for small houses
- Environmental impact of ground and foundation work, ecological diversity
