Objective

The student will be able to:
- have sufficient knowledge of strength of materials and stability to work in design teams for standard, demanding and very demanding design of load-bearing structures in accordance with Eurocode and the Government Decree (1063/2024) on the difficulty class of design tasks
- solve standard problems of mechanics of materials with numerical methods
- solve equations, differentiate and integrate numerically using mathematical tools and software

Review of the basic principles of strength of materials
Different construction materials and their properties
The importance of geometry and dimensions
Multiaxial stress states
Yield and fracture hypotheses, effective stress
Finite element method
Plasticity theory
Energy methods
Stability theory
Fatigue strength
Vibration problems

Qualifications

The educational modules Introduction to Building Techniques, Residential and Public Buildings, Building Mechanics and Mathematics, or similar knowledge
