The student
- understands the importance of logistics for the entire procurement chain
- understands the importance of infrastructure for the Finnish forest industry
- knows methods used for long-distance transport of timber and energy wood
- can assess the carbon footprint in different modes of transport
- can lead transports of timber and energy wood
- understands the time dimension of operational planning and the relationship to finance, logistics and decision-making
- knows methods for planning goal-oriented operational activities
- can store timber and energy wood in different parts of the transport chain based on the requirements of the raw material's properties.

Content

The basics of logistics
Long-distance transport of industrial wood and energy wood: lorries, trains, ships and barges and flotation
Forest roads: road section, parts of the road, technical requirements, road maintenance
Wood storage
The course is based on several of the global sustainability goals, mainly the goal of Industry, innovation and infrastructure
