Objective

Students are aware of the factors affecting the safety of modern sociotechnical systems and their significance on the overall safety of autonomous marine transport. They know the principles and methods of risk assessment, safety management and cyber security autonomous maritime operations. Students have an ability to manage the maintenance and the development of the safety and security of the autonomous ship’s technical systems.

Content

Concepts and principles of cyber security in autonomous shipping ; lifespan of safety; system safety and resilience; risk assessment and fault analysis; risk assessment methods (FMEA, FTA and HAZOP); the risk of drift into failure; the effects of increasing automation; software safety and security; human errors; learning from accident cases; proactive safety and cyber security management.
