Studieperiodens (kursens) lärandemål

The aim of the course is to give a thorough understanding of Polar Code and other Solas/Marpol compliance in the arctic; planning of arctic operations and ice management; cruise shipping regulations in the arctic; voyage planning and counting, supply management, convoy compliance and risk management issues, STS operations; dealing with environmental organizations and media; practical cases of ice management; DP ice management; environmental salvage in the arctic. MASS vessel operation in the arctic.

After completing the course the students:
- Are trained to plan operation of the company in arctic waters. Planning the safety and security measures as part of risk management of the company is a key element of the student´s skills.
- Are able to do environmental and economical assessments of voyage planning in arctic regions and plan the media strategies to avoid disturbance of the operation by environmental voluntary
organizations. Training ice management in the company and DP ice management as well as salvage strategy planning in the arctic are essential. STS operations and environmental clean-up
planning guidelines can be developed by the students.
- Have understanding of future of IMO regulations and guidelines for the operation in the Arctic with MASS vessels.

Förkunskapskrav

Common Advanced Professional Studies 10 ECTS and Degree Specific Advanced Professional Studies 15 ECTS have to be completed

Good work input overall: Reports and/or assignments handed in according to timelines and if required presented. All materials of high quality. Good activity in the class, eg at the discussions and presentations.

Exceptional quality overall: the written Reports and/or assignments, presentations, student activity.

A Report / Reports / assignments not handed in or an unacceptable level of quality (including missed DLs) of the reports and/or presentations.
