Students:
master the structure and function of the machinery units in a vessel as well as alternative solutions and their characteristics.
are familiar with operating economics, maintenance, flag State and classification society rules.

• Various types of main machinery and configurations as well as their impact on building and operating economics
• Impact of the hull resistance overall
• Controllable pitch propeller structure and function
• Shaft line and its components
• Electricity production/generation
• Heat production/generation
• Deck machinery and cargo handling equipment
• Sanitation and freshwater production
• Ship maintenance and docking
• The classification society rules
Teaching methods
Lectures and exercises in the classroom and/or project-based learning. Theory lectures and engine room simulator training will be hold in school in Turku. Hands on training will be hold in the engine laboratory in Parainen. Moore information will be given when the course starts. The whole course will be on site and participation is mandatory.
The course will take place Weeks 40, 42 and 45. We´ll start at 10.00 AM on Monday 3.10
