Objective

The student:

- Can apply evidence-based knowledge in psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment in accordance with Finnish guidelines and care principles
- Identify and interpret the client’s/patient’s issues related to mental health problems and substance abuse/addiction, taking into account the Finnish care context
- Demonstrate understanding and respect for the client/patient and treat them as an expert on their own life, considering cultural and ethical aspects in Finland
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document care under supervision in accordance with Finnish laws, care processes, and documentation requirements
- Establish a good care relationship with the client/patient and their relatives, and demonstrate a professional and ethical approach in line with Finnish standards
- Administer medication safely in accordance with Finnish regulations and practices
- Understand the importance of and actively participate in collaboration with different professional groups within the Finnish care team
- Possess skills to provide first aid in cases of mental health crises and act according to Finnish action models and guidelines

Content

Supervised and work-based practical studies in clinical practice for the Finnish healthcare sector.

Qualifications

Diploma or Bachelor's degree in healthcare from a country outside the EU or EEA

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

- Plans, delivers and evaluates patient care in collaboration with other professionals and with the patient's needs in mind.
- Uses evidence-based practices and is familiar with current guidelines and practices.
- Documents and reports correctly according to current Finnish healthcare practices
- Plans, carries out and evaluates drug therapy with safety and accuracy according to Finnish guidelines.
- Identifies and discusses ethical issues in a constructive manner and demonstrates an ethical approach.
- Interacts with patients and carers professionally and with cultural awareness.
- Observes patient safety and uses aseptic principles correctly.
- Counsels patients clearly, informatively and in a manner appropriate to their situation.
- Works independently and demonstrates good interpersonal skills.
- Expresses learning objectives clearly and with motivation both orally and in writing.
