Objective

The student
- knows the crops' need for plant nutrients and how the need can be met
- knows the macronutrient cycle, soil plant nutrient storage and nutrient mobilization and immobilization
- understands the importance of mycorrhiza for the uptake of nutrients by plants
- can perform ground mapping and give advice based on ground mapping results
- can make fertilizer calculations

Content

Plants' need for nutrients
Procedure for calculating the crop's nutrient requirements
Significance and maintenance of soil nutrient supply
Soil biological and chemical reaction systems
In-depth study of the concept of cation exchange capacity and the factors that determine its extent
Ground mapping
Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulfur: cycles, soil storage and mobilization
Mycorrhiza
The course is based on several of the global sustainability goals, mainly the goals of Responsible consumption and production, Life on land and Climate action.
