Objective

The student is familiar with the Bulk Code. The student is fa-miliar with the loading of grain. He/she is familiar with the concept of “Draft Survey” and is able to perform complete calculations as regards the loaded or unloaded cargo.

The objectives presented in the Convention table A-II/2 col-umn 2 are followed as applicable.

• The International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes Code (IMSBC Code)
• Regulations and directives on cargo handling
• The placement of cargoes on a bulk carrier with reference to the longitudinal stresses
• General safety measures
• Preloading inspections of the cargoes, inspection of the state of the cargo hold, "on hire and off hire" inspections
• Loading and discharging
• The safety of the crew and the vessel
• Cargo lighting
• General cargo vessels with special equipment
• Bulk cargoes involving a chemical risk
• Grain calculations
• Occupational safety
• Structural limitation
• Draft survey
