Objective

After completing the course, the student should know and be able to describe how a basic electronic system is constructed in a modern car.

Content

Presented separately by the lecturer at the start of the course. The content can change as the development of car electronics continues.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Knows about the various electronic systems and their normal designation

Knows about the different systems and their normal terms

Know the different systems of communication and their names
Knows different battery types for hybrid and electric cars and machines
Know different diagnostic systems and programs and their normal terms

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Can describe the functions of the different systems and understand their impact and how they are affected

Can describe the functions of the different systems and understand their impact and how they are affected
Can describe the functions of the different systems and understand their impact as well as where, and why
Can assess their suitability for the purpose as well as the pros and cons
Can describe the functions of the various systems and understand where they can be used

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Be able to calculate and plan for the different systems and understand their interactions

Can account for the risks of interference with designs that affect the function of the various safety systems

Be able to calculate and plan for the different systems and understand their strengths and weaknesses
Understands the impact of battery technology on the environment in terms of manufacturing use and scrap or whatever. recycling
Can plan for the different systems, install and configure hardware and software
