Objective
After passing the course the student is expected to:
- be able to provide the basics of the metal industry's manufacturing methods and processes.
- to be able to give an overall picture of the engineering industry's technology and understand the economic link between manufacturing and construction.
- be prepared with sufficient knowledge for upcoming doctoral practice.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Knows and can identify different manufacturing methods. Knows different tool materials. Is in agreement with the machinery used in the engineering industry. Understands the functional significance of workshop layouts.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Understands the possibilities of different manufacturing methods in the manufacturing process. Can select suitable tool materials and cutting data. Know the basic principles of measurement technology. Is aware of the possibilities of robotisation in the manufacturing process.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Independently be able to choose and evaluate suitable manufacturing methods in the manufacture of components. Understands and can explain the impact of manufacturing methods on the strength of the component. Understands the technical and economic consequences of choosing different manufacturing methods.
