Objective
The aim of the course is to provide the student an overview of maritime and shipping industries and to develop student’s legal and economical understanding (law & economics) on interrelations between different shipping markets, organizations in shipping, economics of shipping and the shipping industry.
After completing the course, the student will:
- Understand the role and significance of maritime transport as part of the international economy
- Understand the roles and interaction of different organizations and stakeholders in the shipping industry and shipping markes.
- Understand regulatory issues in national and international operations and are able to plan strategic shipping operations.
- Understand the logic of key shipping markets and interrelation with law and economics in shipping business
Content
- Shipping in different sectors; Different management strategies for shipping companies and administrations
- Organizing shipping in pooling and joint ventures,
- Management and management Contracts in shipping
- Achieving competitive advantages in national, EU and global markets;
- EU, competition and procurement law relevant to shipping.
- How to look at the future change in the operating environment and define the maritime actors affected in different ways depending on their organisational and management structure
- Localizing the sources of change and to assess the likelihood of the change happening, and to monitor the growth of change.
- Strategic planning for the future; national and international marine policy, and their effects of the on the economy and strategic planning of shipping
- Sustainable development and increasing autonomy as part of the research methodology for companies strategic planning.
