Location and time
The course is conducted through in-person studies with lectures and clinical exercises at Novia University of Applied Sciences, Alere Campus, Wolffskavägen 31, Vaasa.

The in-person studies are followed by clinical work practice at the participant’s own workplace, as well as the writing of a reflection diary. The clinical work practice consists of 25 completed postpartum check-ups for public health nurses. The completed check-ups are documented in a work manual and submitted to the course teacher.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Successful completion of the course and eligibility to perform a comprehensive postpartum check-up requires participation in the in-person study sessions and approved clinical practice (25 completed postpartum check-ups for public health nurses), approved reflection diary and approved cases.
Further information
The student has completed theoretical and supervised clinical studies related to postpartum check-ups and has thereby acquired the competence to independently perform a comprehensive postpartum check-up following a normal delivery.
The studies have covered 3 ECTS credits in the following areas of knowledge:

Follow-up of birth injuries
Breast status and breastfeeding
Sexual health and contraceptive counselling

Completion of the course and approved clinical practice (25 completed postpartum examinations for public health nurses).
Qualifications
The student should be a public health nurse and have a working relationship with a municipality or association of municipalities and be able to carry out postpartum examinations under the supervision of a doctor/other staff in their work unit.
