Objective

The students are able, after completing the course
- Understand the geotechnical properties of different soils
- Master standards and quality control for basic constructions
- Be able to perform settlement calculations
- Be able to choose the right foundation method and understand results from soil exploration
- According to the Eurocode be able to perform simple basic design calculations

Content

- Geotechnical properties and origin of soil types.
- The importance of geotechnics for construction activities
- Risks, quality control and standards
- Central geotechnical survey methods, result descriptions and interpretation of results.
- Choice of foundation method and suitable underground.
- Simple earth pressure, stability, settlement and base pressure calculations.
- Pile plates and piling design
- Soil stabilization, vertical drainage, compensation basis and others
special foundation methods
- Retaining walls and ground beams
- Introduction to the Eurocode (EN 1997)
