We are all communicative beings – everything we do (or don’t do) and say (or don’t say) creates communication. An increasing share of the communication we encounter is visual, constructed with images, colors, shapes, and typography that together form messages. Messages that are interpreted by people. Understanding people and society is therefore fundamental in an industry that not only carries a visual, but also an ethical, societal, and sustainable responsibility.
The studies focus on exploring visual phenomena in a constantly changing world. New tools and automated functions are continuously developed, and your task will be to embrace innovation while learning from history. The education combines tradition and future, theory and practice.
The goal is for you to develop into a professional visual communicator with a strong sense of design, a broad understanding of the surrounding world, and deep knowledge of techniques, materials, and methods. During your studies, you will learn to present your ideas visually, in writing, and verbally. During your internship, which spans approximately 20 working weeks, you will work with professional designers or at design agencies. The program includes subjects such as typography, communication studies, design management, drawing, composition, image processing, photography, motion graphics, communication psychology and communication sociology. You will also work in areas such as illustration, information design, and branding.
After graduating in graphic design, you can work with concept development and design of printed materials, advertising, web, and packaging – either as a freelancer or as a graphic designer at an advertising or media agency.
During your studies, you also have the opportunity to become a junior member of Grafia, the national association for visual communicators in Finland. It is a perfect opportunity to become part of a network shaping the future of design!
