Objective
The Student:
- has a comprehensive understanding of perioperative nursing care and can explain the various stages of the perioperative process, from preoperative to postoperative care
- masters aseptic techniques in perioperative nursing and understand the nurse’s critical responsibility in preventing infection transmission and ensuring sterile conditions throughout the surgical process
- possesses detailed knowledge of the technical equipment and apparatus used in perioperative care, including their functions, proper handling, and maintenance
- demonstrates proficiency in medication management within perioperative care, including the administration, dosage, and monitoring of medications throughout the perioperative phases
- can explain different forms of anesthesia and analgesia, including their mechanisms of action, as well as their impact on the patient’s vital signs and overall condition
- is capable of performing perioperative nursing care planning and documentation following the Finnish classification system, ensuring accurate, organized, and comprehensive records
- can identify, assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing care needs of perioperative patients, mastering the most essential procedures and care methods necessary for optimal outcomes
- understands the use of medical radiation in the perioperative environment, as well as radiation protection protocols to ensure both patient and staff safety
- recognizes the significance of laboratory tests in guiding patient care, including how results influence nursing interventions and treatment decisions
- is skilled in performing specific sampling procedures within the perioperative context, adhering to current guidelines, and maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy
