Objective

The Student
-are introduced to the biotopes, habitats and communities of the Baltic Sea
-can identify common species in the Baltic Sea
-is familiar with marine environments
-knows the basic methods for measuring important ecological parameters in the field and laboratory
-knows how to carry out an ecological study and present the findings

Content

This course will give the basic principles of coastal ecology with the Baltic Sea as a case study. The physical, chemical and biological features of this sea will be discussed. We will study how different habitats in the Baltic Sea functions and what organisms we may commonly find.
