Objective

After completing the course, the student is expected to
• be familiar with the central theories in the sociology of pedagogy
• have an understanding of the relationship between upbringing, education, and socialisation
• have basic insight in the connection between societal development, societal situation, and learning
• have developed an understanding of group processes
• understand the importance of promoting equality in pedagogy and teaching

Content

The aim of the course is for students to gain knowledge of sociological perspectives on identity formation and skills development in institutional and non-institutional contexts with a special focus on Finnish society in the past and present.
