Objective

The student:
- has a deeper understanding of the interaction between constructions - separate buildings as well as municipal engineering - and substructure
- has knowledge of different methods for the laying of foundations, ground and soil reinforcement and geotechnical calculations of bearing strength of the ground, consolidation and pressure
- is familiar with environmental aspects and consequences of earthworks and foundation construction work, and how to prevent negative environmental consequences with correct and environmentally smart planning
- is familiar with environmental geotechnical constructions and how to prevent negative environmental consequences with them

- Installations, deformation and strength for soil and bedrock
- Geoalkyl for house and infrastructure constructions
- Basic and soil reinforcement as well as underground construction
- Environmental geotechnical constructions

Campus Raseborg, autumn 2025, period 1-2

Study material is available on the accompanying Moodle course.

Teaching methods

The working methods and course content are presented more carefully during the first lectures. A course overview, weekly schedule and material is also available on the accompanying Moodle course.

The course includes theory lectures, calculation exercises, exercise with oral presentations and exam.

Attendance is mandatory in part of the course module. This is shown in the weekly plan.

Exam schedules

The compulsory part of the course is completed during period 1 and 2.

Completion alternatives

- Examination
- Exercise assignment - All assignments included in the course should be submitted and approved, even if you perform the course first via re-examination.

Student workload

The total study time for the course is estimated to approximately 80 hours, of which 32 hours are scheduled and the rest is divided into exercises and assignments that the student performs outside the scheduled time.

Assessment methods and criteria

The course is assessed on the scale 0-5 on the basis of exam and exercise (in pair). The course assessment is to 40% based on exercise (in pair) and 60% on the exam.

A passing grade in the course requires that both the exam and all exercises are approved.

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

The student has not demonstrated sufficient basic knowledge of the subject. The student lacks approved performance in one or more of the compulsory parts of the course.
