Engine Technical Laboratory WorkLaajuus (4 cr)

Code: MAP22MO02

Credits

4 op

Objective

The aim of the course is to provide students with in-depth knowledge of performance, combustion and emissions from diesel and ottomotors, through their own laboratory measurements. After completing the course, students should have an understanding of how emissions from engines can be reduced. She will also have knowledge of electronic control systems for motors, illustrated with laboratory work on a modern engine. Finally, students should have gained experience in using modern simulation programs to analyze and optimize engine performance.

Content

- Performance Measurement
- emission measurement
- Cylinder Pressure Measurement
- Heat balance
- Engine Simulation
- Optimization

Qualifications

Engine Technology

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Knows basic performance measurements for the internal combustion engine.

Can perform:
- simpler laboratory tasks on the test engine.
- simpler motor simulations.

Can work in a group.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Can:
- apply the knowledge from the course Combustion engines when the measurements are performed.
- use the more advanced measuring instruments in the laboratory.
- calculate and simulate engine technology models instructions.

Takes responsibility for schedules and plans for test runs.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Can:
- Further develop and discuss based on the theory in the course Combustion Engines.
- independently plan and motivate test and measurement methods.
- independently use the simulation tool and optimize the internal combustion engine model.
- distribute the work within the group and report on the results.
