Objective
The Student:
- has knowledge of perioperative nursing care and can explain the different stages of the care process
- masters aseptic techniques in perioperative nursing care and understands the nurse's responsibility in preventing infection spread
- has knowledge of the technical equipment and apparatus used in perioperative nursing care
- has knowledge of medication management in perioperative nursing care
- can explain different forms of anesthesia and analgesia and how they affect the patient's vital functions
- can perform perioperative nursing care planning and documentation according to the Finnish classification system
- can identify, assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care needs in perioperative patients and master the most central procedures and care methods
- has knowledge of the uses of medical radiation and radiation protection
- understands the importance of laboratory tests for patient care
- can perform specific sampling within care according to current guidelines and quality requirements

Pre- and postoperative nursing care
Intraoperative nursing care and different roles in the operating room
Anesthesiological nursing care
Patient monitoring during anesthesia
Patient safety and aseptic techniques in perioperative nursing care
Medication management in perioperative nursing care
The central forms of anesthesia and analgesia
Medical radiation and radiation protection (1 ECTS)
Patient preparation for sampling and preanalytical factors
Sampling and the most common laboratory tests
