Objective
The Student:
- is familiar with the overall laboratory testing process, including its phases: pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical
- is familiar with the evaluation and assessment of peripheral blood smears in relation to various factors affecting blood cell morphology and different disease states (anemias, infections, other benign conditions, myeloproliferative and lymphoproliferative disorders, MDS, and leukemias)
- has knowledge of laboratory investigations and methods and can assess laboratory results related to erythrocyte-, leukocyte-, and thrombocyte-related conditions as well as acute leukemias
- can use key professional information sources and scientific publications related to methods, reference values, disease diagnostics, and current research in the field
- is prepared to contribute to quality development and consider sustainable development within the field

Peripheral blood smears: morphological assessment and interpretation
Factors influencing blood cell morphology
Hematological conditions: anemias, infections, benign disorders
Myeloproliferative and lymphoproliferative diseases, MDS, and leukemias
The laboratory testing process: pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases
