Steel Structures 1Laajuus (3 cr)

Code: BYM22KO05

Credits

3 op

Objective

The student
- Knows the difference between hot and cold machined construction elements, and knows what profile cross-sections are available and knows for what purposes the cross-sections can be suitably used.
- Knows the life cycle of steel and can describe the most common rust and fire protection methods
- Can check to which cross-section class a beam belongs and can dimension beams in cross-section class 1, 2 and 3 according to the elasticity theory.
Knows when to dimension beams according to the plasticity theory and can dimension beams and printed rods according to suitable theory, depending on cross-sectional class affiliation.
Map can explain when there is a risk of tilting (1) for beams, can check whether a beam is sufficiently braced, can calculate tilting load capacity
- Can dimension sheared bolt joints and or drawn and sheared welds according to the simplified method.
- Knows what is essential to be part of and can read typical steel drawings (partial drawings, wholes and line drawings).
