The student
- understands what a well-functioning sheep farming requires in terms of production control, animal care, production environment and feeding
- can take into account requirements from authorities, intermediaries and processors as well as requests from consumers
- knows how sheep farms and pastures should be designed taking into account animal welfare
- can optimize sustainable sheep farming

General conditions for sheep keeping
Development of sheep farming and future prospects in Finland
Grazing and the importance of sheep in landscape care
Feeding, various feed raw materials, roughage and concentrates, minerals and vitamins
Choice of different sheep breeds for different purposes, wool, meat and milk production
Requirements that may place on their production environment and their care in wool and meat and milk production, respectively
Special requirements for attention in connection with paralysis, possible problems and current care measures in connection with paralysis
Factors affecting the profitability and economic prospects of sheep farming
Optimization of sheep farming based on current influencing factors and requirements
The course is based on several of the global sustainability goals, mainly the goals of Responsible consumption and production and Life on land
