The aim of the course is to give a thorough understanding of the structure of regulation and inspection activity in shipping; the role and responsibilities of different bodies: IMO, IHO, IALA, classification societies, standardization organizations and national authorities; fundamentals of marine insurance relating to casualty management; the purpose and importance of inspections carried out by authorities classification societies and marine insurers; internal inspections; the purpose of accident inspection; a typical accident investigation process in traditional and future increasingly automated industry
After completing the course the students:
- Have a thorough understanding of the role of classification and standardization in present and future shipping faced by radical changes due to increasing technical solutions, autonomy and new
carbon free fuels.
- Are able to perform technical inspections for classification societies, maritime authorities and insurance companies.
- Have a good understanding of the purpose and importance of accident investigation, and they are able to act as an inspector or a technical specialist, or marine insurance surveyor in accident
investigation in shipping environment.

Förkunskapskrav
Common Advanced Professional Studies 10 ECTS and Technical Management and Procurement Management 5 cr as well as Environmental Law in Shipping and Sustainable Development Legislation 5 cr have to be completed
