Objective

After passing the course the student is expected to:

- be able to identify and describe additive manufacturing methods
- have an insight into the benefits of additive manufacturing
- be able to analyze designs and evaluate the suitability for additive manufacturing
- be able to understand the limitations of additive manufacturing and how they should be taken into account in the design work
- be able to perform topology optimization

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Knows the principles used for additive manufacturing.
Understands the principles of optimization of topology.
Knows the principles of solid, facet and surface models.
Knows about different types of lattice structures.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Knows and understands the limitations and possibilities of the methods.
Can apply topology optimization to simple objects.
Can make topology optimized 3D models of simple objects.
Can create models with lattice structures.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Understands the technical and economic connections that the choice of manufacturing method entails.
Can identify boundary conditions and apply topology optimization to complicated objects.
Can make topology optimized 3D models of complicated objects.
Understands and can take into account the advantages and limitations of using lattice structures.
