Objective

The student
- has knowledge of and an understanding of the most common forms of mental illness
- has knowledge of and masters the various treatment and care methods of mental health care
- can assess the need for care in people in need of emergency psychiatric care
- can define risk use, harmful use / abuse, addiction and co-dependence
- has knowledge of various forms of abuse; mainly alcohol, drugs and medicines
- has knowledge of various forms of treatment and psycho social care
- has the skills to intervene in time, inform, give advice and guide the client and relatives in substance abuse issues
- understands the importance of health promotion and prevention interventions and care as well as rehabilitation in mental illness and in addiction and dependence
- can interpret the central legislation and the national planning for the area and can apply the knowledge in professional practice
- masters the medical terminology and drug treatment in the field
- can interact professionally and caringly with clients / patients of different ages and with varying backgrounds and with their relatives
- respects the patient / client and treats them as an expert on their own life
- can support and guide the client / patient and relatives to get involved in care
