Objective
The student
- knows practical details about the planning and management of field trials
- can identify the most common weed species in cereal, oilseed, forage and sugar crops
- can take stock of and assess the need for practical fertilisation and plant protection measures in fields during spring and early summer
- has mastered basic plant protection technology and is knowledgeable about combine harvesters
- knows specific regional conditions for rural entrepreneurship, in particular applied plant cultivation, in different parts of Finland and can analyse and report on a study trip in Finland
Content
Regional excursion (The excursion, which is carried out for about 3 - 4 days and contains about 12 - 15 pieces of different destinations on a broad basis in the agriculture sector, is placed annually in either Ostrobothnia, Åland or eastern Uusimaa)
Study visit to the Center for Sugar Beet Research
Study visits to fertilization and plant protection experiments (Yara, Kotkaniemi)
SPAD diagnosis in cereals
Plant Protection Day with business representatives
Field studies at Västankvarn farm
Sustainable development in agriculture (bioeconomy) is an essential part of the course and various organic production forms are included in the study trip
