Objective

The student
- knows the basics of genetics and animal breeding
- can apply the basics when choosing breeding animals
- is familiar with breeding methods for production animals
- can assess opportunities and risks with cloning and genetic engineering

Content

The basics of genetics and livestock breeding, different links between genetics and breeding work, breeding evaluation and heritability
Fundamentals of breeding theory
Different breeding methods
Modern genetic engineering
The course is based on several of the global sustainability goals, mainly the goal of Responsible production and Good health and well-being.

Evaluation scale

H-5

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Grade scale 0 - 5, at least 50% of the total score in the exam with calculation exercises for a passed / satisfactory level, impact on the course grade 75%

Approved project assignments that are assessed in the scale 0 - 5, impact on the course grade 25%

Activity and interest as well as active participation in arithmetic exercises affect the assessment and the final course grade
