Objective
After passing the course the student is expected to:
- be able to define, identify and describe basic concepts related to geodetic coordinate systems
- be able to understand basic principles for the construction of geodetic coordinate systems
- be able to explain and defend the basic principles of coordinate transformation
- be able to choose a method for coordinate transformation, both in relation to theory and practice
Content
- terminology relating to coordinate systems
- different types of geodetic coordinate systems and map projections
- the coordinate systems used in our country
- transformation of coordinates between geodetic coordinate systems

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student shall be familiar with the core terminology in geodesy as well as the most common coordinate systems.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student shall be able to describe the mathematic relations between the coordinate systems.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student shall be able to carry out coordinate transformations between the coordinate systems in Finland.
