Objective
The student
- can measure trees, tree stands and growth
- can calculate volumes for individual trees and stands with the help of tables
- knows the definitions of different development classes and can identify these in the terrain
- knows the development of the stand throughout the cycle
- can locate existing GIS material on the Internet and in the own organization's databases.

Finland's forests in numerical form, the national forest assessment and its results
Forest Development Classes in theory and in the field
Diameter and height measurement
From dimensions to volumes using different methods
Age measurement and growth concept
Sample plots

Selection of sample trees

Introduction to map use (moose or deer hunting can be included as an exercise in map use)
