Objective

• The students have knowledge of style history before the 21st century
• The students have in-depth knowledge of selected key clothing and accessories from style eras
• The students have knowledge of key figures in the history of style
•The students understand the meaning of vintage fashion and second hand
• The students can create and work with different techniques, tools and products in styling
• The students have the ability to recreate and renew looks from selected style eras
• The students follow good industrial hygiene
• The students can apply, analyze and develop an approach that promote economic, ecological and social sustainability and consumption of looks and product use

Lectures, narrative method, demonstrations, practical exercises, workshops, research, self studies, mood boards, portfolio and team work.

Examination consists of submitted assignments:

Joint Examination Assignment for Lotta and Jaana: Style Rebirth: Elements Reimagined, 3 cr
Part 1, theoretical research, deadline and presentation: 3.12.2025
Part 2, practical part, deadline and presentation: 28.1.2026

assignment in Lotta's part (0,5/2cr): Restyle, 0,5 cr, deadline autumn 2025

Jaana's part: examination consists of assignments, grades (0-5) and activity/attendance, grades (0-5).
1. Visual Identity: Crafting Personal Portraits, course assignment individually or in pairs, 1 ECTS. Deadline: 17.10.2025 via Moodle. Feedback is given via Moodle. Grades (0-5).
2. Activity and Attendance, 0,5 ECTS. grade (0-5).

All course assignments needs to be completed and approved to get the course graded.

Instructions for the examination are given at each course part introduction.

Completion alternatives

Approved practical assignments and course assignments.
Pair / group feedback is given during seminar and after finished course.

The student demonstrates superficial competence and basic understanding of the subject

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has an immerse competence and shows a deeper understanding of the subject in relation to the upcoming profession

Assessment methods and criteria

The course is evaluated based on grades (0-5) for assignments (individual, pair and / or team). The average of the grades for assignments form the final grade in the course.

The following criteria are assessed in the course's examination assignment:
Research Quality: Depth and accuracy in historical research
Creativity: Originality and innovation in the reinterpretation of style
Presentation Skills: Clarity, engagement, and use of visual aids

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

The student has not followed the instructions of the assignment and shows especially vague competences within the theme.
The assignments are inadequate or lacking.
The student has not participated or contributed anything during the course.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student demonstrates superficial competence and basic understanding of the subject

The student has partly followed the instructions of the assignments and demonstrates superficial competence and basic understanding of the subject.
The content of submitted assignments are satisfactory.
The student has participated in the course, but the commitment and activity have been low or satisfactory.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student demonstrates a competence that is related and linked to the literature
The student can reflect and motivate from own point of view

The student has almost or has fulfilled the instructions of the assignments and demonstrates good or eminently good competence within the subject.
The content of submitted assignments are good or eminently good.
The student has participated or participated actively in the course and demonstrates commitment for content of the course and course assignments.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has an immerse competence and shows a deeper understanding of the subject in relation to the upcoming profession

The student has fulfilled the instructions of the assignments and demonstrates excellent competence within the subject.
The content of submitted assignments are excellent and exceptionally executed.
The student has been active during the course and demonstrates extra commitment and interest for content of the course and course assignments.
