Objective

After passing the course the student is expected to:
• Be able to define and describe basic concepts in control and control technology
• Be able to understand how control and control circuits are constructed
• Be able to make selection of suitable sensors and appropriate communication method with controller
• Be able to analyze and program plc programs
• Be able to select parameters for control systems

Content

The course content is as follows:
• Terms and concepts in control and control technology
• Control systems and communication
• Sensors, their function and applications
• Machine safety components
• Choice of type of control system
• Control system and setting of their parameters
• PLC

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

• Know the most common terms and different phenomena
• Know the most common components and their use
• Can perform sensor selection
• Knows different control methods and can create simple plc programs
• Understands the influence of different parameters in control systems

Assessment criteria, good (3)

• Know different names and phenomena
• Can perform selection of suitable measurement method, sensor and communication
• Can create PLC programs for various automation engineering purposes
• Can apply knowledge when setting control systems

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

• Know about various advanced phenomena and what they mean and how they can be applied / counteracted in control and control technology
• Independently be able to build an automatic process
• Be able to argue for different choices of components and technical solutions
• Independently be able to troubleshoot and find solutions
